Lyophilization removes water from a frozen material by sublimation under reduced pressure. The process begins with freezing, which converts liquid water into ice and concentrates dissolved solids. Primary drying then lowers chamber pressure so ice changes directly into vapor without passing through a liquid phase. Secondary drying raises the shelf temperature to remove bound water that remains after ice sublimation. The result is a dry, porous structure that can be reconstituted later.
Formulation composition influences whether freeze-drying produces an intact cake or a collapsed mass. Excipients such as sugars and polymers can raise the collapse temperature and provide bulk during drying. The critical temperature for primary drying is often the collapse temperature or the glass transition temperature of the maximally concentrated phase. If the product temperature exceeds this threshold, the frozen matrix may soften and lose structure. Established practice therefore links shelf temperature and chamber pressure to the formulation's thermal properties.
Quality control for lyophilized materials includes visual inspection, residual moisture measurement, and reconstitution testing. Cake appearance can reveal process problems such as collapse, shrinkage, or meltback, although appearance alone does not prove potency. Residual moisture is commonly measured by Karl Fischer titration or by loss on drying. Reconstitution time is checked because a slow or incomplete dissolve can indicate a change in pore structure. Stability studies track these attributes over time under defined temperature and humidity conditions.
Analytical methods for lyophilized solids must account for the low moisture content and the fragile cake. Karl Fischer titration is widely used for water content, while near-infrared spectroscopy can measure moisture non-destructively in sealed containers. X-ray diffraction and modulated differential scanning calorimetry help identify crystalline or amorphous phases. Residual solvent analysis may be needed if organic solvents were used during formulation. The combination of these methods supports batch release and long-term stability assessment.
Lyophilized products are typically stored as sealed solids in vials or syringes. Moisture ingress is a major concern because many dried cakes are hygroscopic and can lose stability when exposed to humid air. Storage temperature depends on the formulation; some products are kept refrigerated, while others are stable at room temperature. Container closure integrity and headspace moisture are often monitored. Light protection may also be required for some photosensitive materials.

It is the country's second-largest private employer and the third-largest employer overall. The United States is home to over 220 Michelin-starred restaurants, 14 of which were awarded three stars. Wine has been produced in what is now the United States since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in what is now New Mexico in 1628. In the modern U.S., wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84 percent of all U.S. wine. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine-producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France. The classic American diner, a casual restaurant type originally intended for the working class, emerged during the 19th century from converted railroad dining cars made stationary. The diner soon evolved into purpose-built structures whose number expanded greatly in the 20th century. The American fast-food industry developed alongside the nation's car culture. American restaurants developed the drive-in format in the 1920s, which they began to replace with the drive-through format by the 1940s. American fast-food restaurant chains, such as McDonald's, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dunkin' Donuts and many others, have numerous outlets around the world.
Citrullination or deimination is the conversion of the amino acid arginine in a protein into the amino acid citrulline. Citrulline is not one of the 20 standard amino acids encoded by DNA in the genetic code. Instead, it is the result of a post-translational modification. Citrullination is distinct from the formation of the free amino acid citrulline as part of the urea cycle or as a byproduct of enzymes of the nitric oxide synthase family. Enzymes called arginine deiminases catalyze the deimination of free arginine, while protein arginine deiminases or peptidylarginine deiminases (PADs) replace the primary ketimine group by a ketone group. Arginine is positively charged at a neutral pH, whereas citrulline has no net charge. This increases the hydrophobicity of the protein, which can lead to changes in protein folding, affecting the structure and function. The immune system can attack citrullinated proteins, leading to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Fibrin and fibrinogen may be favored sites for arginine deimination within rheumatoid joints. Test for presence of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies are highly specific (88–96%) for rheumatoid arthritis, about as sensitive as rheumatoid factor (70–78%) for diagnosis of RA, and are detectable from even before the onset of clinical disease. Citrullinated vimentin may be an autoantigen in rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases, and is used to study rheumatoid arthritis.
A pariah field, cast out by the scientific establishment. Between cold fusion and respectable science there is virtually no communication at all. Cold fusion papers are almost never published in refereed scientific journals, with the result that those works don't receive the normal critical scrutiny that science requires. On the other hand, because the Cold-Fusioners see themselves as a community under siege, there is little internal criticism. Experiments and theories tend to be accepted at face value, for fear of providing even more fuel for external critics, if anyone outside the group was bothering to listen. In these circumstances, crackpots flourish, making matters worse for those who believe that there is serious science going on here.

Amino acids are polymerised via peptide bonds to form a long backbone, with the different amino acid side chains protruding along it. In biological systems, proteins are produced during translation by a cell's ribosomes. Some organisms can also make short peptides by non-ribosomal peptide synthesis, which often use amino acids other than the encoded 22, and may be cyclised, modified and cross-linked.
=== Glycoprotein IIb / IIIa complex (GPIIb / IIIa = integrin αIIbβ3) === This complex interacts with fibrinogen and thus plays an important role in platelet aggregation and adhesion to endothelial surfaces. Activation of this complex initiates the platelet aggregation and the formation of primary platelet plug, a fibrin clot. The IIb / IIIa complex is a major platelet membrane component. There are as many as 50 000 copies. The αIIb (GPIIb) is composed of two subunits linked by disulfide bridges. The β3 (GPIIIa) forms a single polypeptide chain. These subunits form Ca2+ - dependent complex on the surface of platelet membrane in a 1:1 ratio. Fibrinogen sites recognized by glycoprotein IIb / IIIa complex:
In general, GBS is a harmless commensal bacterium being part of the human microbiota colonizing the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract of up to 30% of healthy human adults (asymptomatic carriers). Nevertheless, GBS can cause severe invasive infections, especially in newborns, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. S. agalactiae is also a common veterinary pathogen because it can cause bovine mastitis (inflammation of the udder) in dairy cows. The species name agalactiae meaning "of no milk", alludes to this.

Greenland's prime minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen thanked the European allies for their support. Ursula von der Leyen said in a speech at the World Economic Forum on 20 January that geopolitical "shocks" and Trump's worldview require a "new form of European independence." She underlined that the sovereignty and integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland is non-negotiable. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that the EU does not need to deal with the Greenland crisis because it is only a dispute between Denmark and the US. There have been claims that Hungary and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán have provided behind the scenes support for Donald Trump's territorial claims concerning Greenland. At the same time, Szijjártó's statement violates several obligations and expectations associated with EU membership, given that Denmark is also a member of the EU. At the height of the crisis, there also emerged calls and petitions to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup, planned for the next summer and co-hosted by the United States. On 6 February, France and Canada announced the opening of their respective consulates in Nuuk in support of Greenlanders.

In the 1930s, the French enologist Jean Ribéreau-Gayon published papers stating the benefits of this bacterial transformation in wine. During the 1950s, advances in enzymatic analysis allowed enologists to better understand the chemical processes behind malolactic fermentation. Émile Peynaud furthered enology understanding of the process and soon cultured stock of beneficial lactic acid bacteria was available for winemakers to use.
=== Collaborative history with Pharrell Williams === As a teenage rapper, Malice met music producers Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams in 1988 and 1990, respectively. Hugo and Williams knew each other and would go on to form the production duo the Neptunes. One day, Pusha T was at Hugo's house and started rapping. Impressed, Williams convinced the brothers to form a rap duo. Clipse's intended debut album, Exclusive Audio Footage (1999), was shelved by Elektra Records; their actual debut Lord Willin' was released by the Neptunes' record label Star Trak Entertainment in 2002. The Neptunes would go on to have production credits on every commercially released studio album by Clipse until the latter's disbandment. Williams claimed to not be on speaking terms with Hugo in 2024 in light of a lawsuit from the latter against him over claims that he was monopolizing the Neptunes name. When asked in 2024 if Clipse worked with Hugo on Let God Sort Em Out, Pusha T denied it. He also responded not being "familiar with" the lawsuit. Clipse stated in 2025 that they still have a strong personal relationship with Hugo, although they differed on whether they missed working with him musically; Pusha T stated that his favorite Clipse album Hell Hath No Fury (2006) was produced entirely by Williams. Malice references the breakup on promotional single "So Be It"—"Ain't no more Neptunes, so P's Saturn."
=== Part One === Part One is set during the second half of events of Half-Life 2: Episode One. Dr. Isaac Kleiner is making his "Kleinercasts" on City 17's PA system, warning that the Combine Citadel is set to explode at any moment; should the Citadel detonate, the resulting explosion will destroy the city and the surrounding area. Prior to the film's events, Gordon Freeman's actions within the Citadel have held down the impending explosion, opening a small window of time for civilians to escape. Members of the Lambda Resistance are seen fighting their way out of the city as the Combine's Civil Protection forces try to hold them back. CP officers are also seen executing captured rebels, while Combine synths wreak havoc on the warzone. Two male Resistance members (Derek Chan and Ian Purchase) are introduced escaping through an overrun trainyard. Through radio communication, the two learn from a third rebel (David Purchase) that the last evacuation train has already left, and are urged to escape the city on foot through the canal system (a route similar to that of Gordon Freeman's in Half-Life 2) in order to catch up with David, who is en route to the Resistance stronghold of White Forest. After a brief argument, the two resolve to escape City 17 before "the Citadel blows us up first". Suddenly, CP officers appear and fire on the Resistance members. The two retaliate with their own weaponry (Derek using a 9mm pistol, then a crowbar found hanging on a handrail; Ian using an SMG with a grenade launcher) and manage to escape.
=== Production of acrylonitrile === Currently, most acrylonitrile (90% in 2008) is produced by the SOHIO method, which is based on the catalytic oxidation of propylene in the presence of ammonia and bismuth phosphomolybdate. However, until 1960 a key production process was addition of hydrogen cyanide to ethylene oxide, followed by dehydration of the resulting cyanohydrin:

Primary drying removes ice by sublimation at low pressure and low shelf temperature. Secondary drying removes bound water by raising the shelf temperature, often under the same vacuum. The two stages differ in the water state being removed.
Freezing determines ice crystal size, pore structure, and the concentration of solutes in remaining liquid. Faster freezing generally creates smaller ice crystals and a denser dried matrix. These features affect drying rate and reconstitution behavior.
Lyophilization reduces water content but usually leaves a small amount of water in the dried material. Some water remains bound to solids or trapped in the dried matrix. Very low water targets can require extended secondary drying, which may alter product stability.
Most lyophilized products are stored in sealed containers at controlled temperature and humidity. Some require refrigeration, while others are stable at room temperature. Protection from light and moisture is often necessary.
